Boushey

Yakima Valley AVA, WA

In the world of Washington wine, few grape growers have earned more respect from winemakers than Dick Boushey. His name has become synonymous with exceptional Washington wine. In 2014, we were able to dip our toe into the water and partner with Dick and his better half, Luanne, starting with a couple tons of Mourvèdre. Since then our relationship has grown and we are fortunate to be able to work with Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre from his eponymous vineyard in the Yakima Valley, just north of Grandview, WA. Adding to the intrigue of this cooler growing site (for Washington), the 3 varietals we work with here are grown nearly contiguously on the mid-slope of the vineyard. This allows us to capture a truer expression of a singular place in the blend as well as when bottled as a single varietal. The Boushey vineyard’s flavors transcend varietal and offer up an elegance and depth not found in the warmer vineyard sites just a few miles away. This expression of place is at the core of our philosophy at W.T. Vintners. The soils are a mix of silt/loam topsoil over Missoula flood deposits and basalt in the lower block. As one climbs in elevation to our Syrah block, the soil transitions to shallow silt/loam over fractured basalt.
